Our Services
What makes a Kol Zimrah service a Kol Zimrah service?
- Any one service might combine melodies by Debbie Friedman, Shlomo Carlebach, traditional nusach, and music that you wrote last week
- From start to finish, everything that isn't silent is sung
- There are no explicit directions like "Please rise"; all are invited to sing, harmonize, hum, sit, stand, or dance whenever the spirit is moved
- Our Friday night services follow the traditional structures of kabbalat shabbat and ma'ariv
- There is no "official" siddur (prayerbook); everyone is free to use his/her preferred versions of the text, or his/her own personal prayers, or no words at all
- Someone in jeans might be sitting next to someone in a suit, next to someone in a sundress
All are invited to take an active role in guiding Kol Zimrah, by leading a service, organizing Shabbat meals and other events, helping to find meeting spaces, and contributing your creative ideas for Kol Zimrah's future.
